Frequently Asked Questions

1What is Colon Hydrotherapy?
Colon Hydrotherapy is an effective and safe way to achieve a clean colon. It has been practiced for centuries for its natural healing and restorative qualities. It is irrigation and “cleansing” of the rectum and large intestine through several safe, gentle infusions of temperature varied, multi-filtered water. No chemicals or drugs are involved.
2What is the colon?
The colon is the last (5) feet of the digestive tract. It is a hollow, tube like organ made up of muscle structure that moves digested food along by a wavelike motion known as peristaltic action. The colon is the living area for a host of bacteria that produce vitamins, such as K and some B vitamins. The colon also absorbs water, nutrients, proteins and cell salts back into the blood stream.
3What can I expect from a Colon Therapy session?
The procedure is very simple. You will fill out a health questionnaire at the time of your first appointment. You will receive your colonic in a comfortable, private room with a private restroom. You will have a gown on and will be covered at all times. The procedure is very safe. We use disposable tubing and state-of-the-art equipment that is sterilized after each session. Warm filtered water is slowly introduced into the colon at a safe and minimal pressure, and then released. Water and waste exit through the tubing and is totally enclosed in the tubing. And at the end -- you feel wonderful!
4Why should I be concerned about my colon?
The colon has been referred to as the sewer system of the body. It is the place where we store the waste material that most of us would rather not think about and most of us don't until our health becomes poor or we feel constipated or have diarrhea. Its best benefits the body due to release of this accumulated congestion in the bowel.
5How can I cleanse my colon?
One of the safest ways is a combination of diet, exercise, and Colon Hydrotherapy. It is the gentle infusion of filtered, temperature-controlled water, into the colon, by way of a sterile-disposable rectal tube or speculum. Water in-fecal matter flushed out.
6Will laxatives or enemas accomplish the same results?
To clean out the lower part of the colon, enemas are fine. But you are missing about four feet of the colon. Laxatives are an irritant to the body. Therefore, the body produces a thin, watery substance that goes through the colon and leaves behind impacted toxins and waste.
7What makes a colonic so special?
In a 45-minute session approximately 15 gallons of water is used to gently flush the colon. Through appropriate use of massage, pressure points, etc., the colon therapist is able to work loose and eliminate far more toxic waste than any other short-term technique.
8How will I feel immediately afterward? During the session?
Some common feelings after a colon hydrotherapy session are alertness, unusual increase in energy, hunger, feeling of cleanliness, feeling lighter, less bloated, more range of motion in the abdominal area, happiness, cleared sinus pressure, temporary fatigue, temporary nausea (During the Session). Sometimes people have emotional releases during their session. Our abdomen is a vulnerable place where we store a lot of emotion. Everything is connected, so when we release things physically that we’ve been storing in the colon, we sometimes release an emotional experience with it. The emotional release can come out as laughter or tears, among other ways.
9How many Colonic treatments are recommended?
Everyone is different, so the number of colonic treatments will depend completely on the individual and his/her wellness goals. Just as some people exercise on a daily or weekly basis to tone and tighten their outer body, some people also have their own on-going cleansing, toning and rebuilding regimen for their inner body. Colon hydrotherapy can be used as part of any regular maintenance program.
10Can Colon Hydrotherapy improve the Bacteria balance in my body?
Perhaps in Two ways. (1) One way is to remove the toxins so the beneficial bacteria has a cleaner house to live in. (2) The second way is with a probiotic implant which is included with your service. It is also helpful to take probiotics regularly on your own.
11Does a Colonic hurt?
No. A Colonic session is a comfortable experience for most people; however, if discomfort is experienced, the session can be stopped at any time.
12Will I be naked during the procedure?
No, you are completely covered during the entire procedure, resting comfortably on the massage table. It is important that the therapist helps each individual maintain the utmost dignity during the session. It is a very relaxing experience.
13What should I do before a session?
It is best to refrain from eating a large meal within two-three hours of your session. The therapist may incorporate some abdominal massage into the session, and it may not be comfortable if your stomach is full. After the session, you can go about your day as normal.
14How much time is required for a Colon Hydrotherapy session?
The first session may take longer than the follow up sessions. Plan about an hour for the first session. The actual time on most FDA equipment is between thirty and forty minutes. After the first session, the body will know what to expect and become more relaxed.
15What is the aftercare for Colonic?
After your session, you can drive, eat food, exercise, and do anything you would normally be doing during your day. There is no “down time” after a session. Remember, we use only water during your session, no medicine or anesthesia.
16Will one colonic completely empty the colon?
Almost never. Firstly, many of us have a considerable amount of impacted feces in our colon. This is hardened, rubbery or wallpaper like material. Substantial work must be done to remove it. It is unreasonable to think that a single session can reverse an entire lifetime of accumulation. Just like you would see the dentist regularly to remove the plaque from your teeth, it is the other end of the same digestive system and must be maintained as well.
17Will a colonic make me constipated or give me diarrhea?
The most frequent post-colonic experience is to have a slight delay in bowel movements and then a resumption of a somewhat larger, easier to move stool. Sometimes if the colon is weak and sluggish, there may be no bowel movement for several days following a colonic. However, this is not due to the colonic, but rather to the weakness of the colon, and should be interpreted as an indication that the colon requires strengthening and healing. Very infrequently diarrhea or loose bowels may be experienced.
18How sanitary is the procedure?
At our facility, we only use disposable equipment. Every client receives a new speculum and tubing, and everything is thrown away at the end of the session. The Hydro-San Plus closed equipment is sanitized – inside and out – after each colon hydrotherapy session, no matter the duration of the treatment. The drape sheet and towel are also changed on the massage table for every client. There are no exceptions.
19Who can benefit from Colon Therapy?
Nearly Everyone! The colon is one of five eliminative organs in the body. Colon Therapy is an excellent way of eliminating toxins from the body. The less toxins we have in the body, the healthier we will be and as our immune systems as well.
